‘90s Warsaw club scene explored in new exhibition, EUFORIA!
Running through December, the Muzeum Woli exhibition examines how the Polish capital's nightlife scene interacted with political, social and economic shifts at a crucial moment in its history
A new exhibition in Warsaw examines the club scene in Poland's capital from the late '80s and beyond.
Muzeum Woli's EUFORIA. O warszawskiej scenie klubowej po 1989 roku ("EUFORIA! About Warsaw's Club Scene After 1989") explores how the city's nightlife interacted with political, social and economic shifts, like the country's from communism to the European Union, as well as how venues like Fugazi, Filtry, CDQ and Piekarnia fostered a sense of community.
Curator Konrad Schiller describes EUFORIA! as "a subjective presentation of selected club venues in the capital, which appeared in the urban fabric at the time of the transformation frenzy and defined the character of Warsaw's club scene for many years", according to Resident Advisor. "It's not only an insight into Warsaw's clubbing during the period of change, but also an attempt to look at an aspect of Warsaw's cultural heritage that has so far played out in memories", he continued. "It becomes a contribution to writing the history of the city from a club perspective."
The exhibition, curated by, opened earlier this month and is running through the rest of the year, until 15th December. It is ticketed, with free entry on Thursdays — find more information and tickets here.
This past March, the Southbank Centre hosted a special short film programme, titled Rave: Recharge, highlighting the '90s Polish rave scene as part of the 2024 Kinoteka Polish Film Festival.
