This last year was Eric Prydz’s busiest year of touring to date, which is quite something for an artist whose career spans over two decades already. After overcoming a fear of flying, the Swedish DJ — initially known for ’00s dancefloor hits like ‘Pjanoo’ and ‘Call On Me’ — completed tours in Thailand, Japan, Bali, South America and the US. He told DJ Mag: “I have been blessed this year to travel the world, going to places that I have never been to before. I have had a fantastic year with loads of new experiences.”

Whilst touring the globe, Prydz also held down a weekly residency at Hï Ibiza, HOLO, throughout the summer together with Newcastle’s Cristoph. Regular guests included Adam Beyer and Patrick Topping alongside everyone from Heidi and Eats Everything through to Sally C, DJ Boring and Ewan McVicar. He also took the same residency to Tomorrowland, curating a stage with himself, Joris Voorn and Cristoph. Touring has taken up much of Prydz’s time this year, though he still managed to squeeze in a remix of Anyma and Chris Avantgarde’s ‘Consciousness’ on Afterlife Recordings, alongside extending his Pryda alias and label with a new EP titled ‘The Return/Of Me’.

What was the most exciting tech development of 2023? “I feel that the music plug-ins made today are getting insanely good. With AI they are just on a different level compared to a few years ago. Especially Waves, Izotope and Universal Audio.”

Rising star DJ/producer of 2023: “I love the trio of Skrillex, Fred again.. and Four Tet, they are such a fun and exciting combination musically.”

What gives you hope for 2024? “Not much to be honest. We are living in weird times.”
