PREMIERE: CURTIS GABRIEL 'IF YOU CAN'

Sam Divine launches D-Vine Sounds with 'If You Can'

If you're a fan of UK house imprint Defected Records, then the name Sam Divine will be familiar. Longtime radio host and resident DJ for the famed UK label, Divine has now stepped out to spearhead her own imprint, D-Vine Sounds. The first track on D-Vine Sounds is set to drop in March, with DJ Mag securing an exclusive premiere of Curtis Gabriel's 'If You Can'.

'If You Can' is out 23rd March on D-Vine Sounds.

DJ Mag sat down with Sam to find out the story behind her new venture.

Why your own label and why now?

"Well, I actually launched the label in December 2014. With over 10 years experience in the music industry as a DJ and working in record shops from an early age, then being picked up by Defected Records in 2009, I wanted to use my knowledge and A&R talent for spotting new records and new artists."

What's the ethos behind the label?

"The label is run by myself and two of my best friends so our ethos is simple: good music plus good people equals good times! We want to put out quality records that will have a longer shelf life than just a few weeks. The music industry is one of the hardest to crack so if we can do something good with any of the artists we are working with, then it will be a job well done."

What's coming up next? Plans for 2015?

"We have a various artist album in the pipeline which will be split into two parts ready for the summer. It's ten tracks of warm-up house right through to 4am club bangers and after-party tech house. There isn't a current trend running through the label, it's just quality house music that can played at any time of the night, no matter what club you are in. I think this is so important, we mean business!"
