Animal Music are a new live drum & bass act from London, currently making waves on the blogs and in the live arena. Fusing the dynamics of a live drum & bass act with songwriting craft, we're tipping them for great things.
Animal Music started out when DJ/producer Penny hooked up with MC Pete Pocket, and they began making tracks and doing DJ/MC shows. Deciding they wanted to be a proper band, they recruited vocalist Tom Sutcliffe and drummer Andy McKenzie and set about getting animalistic.
Citing d&b acts like Netsky, Wilkinson, Andy C, Roni Size and Chase & Status as inspirations, the guys also namecheck loads of drum & bass labels as well as songwriters such as Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan. Karl Hyde from Underworld is already a fan, which is apt as that's what they say they're about — “songwriting with dance music”.
The video for debut single 'We Stay Vacant' features a young man and young woman waking up naked in London. They both stroll the streets as if mysteriously drawn to the same location before finally... well, you'll just have to watch it and see.
