COCOON DIARIES: PATRICK TOPPING

We go back to ‘09 with the Hot Creations DJ/producer...

We’ve been asking top DJs to describe their first experiences at the one and only Cocoon in Ibiza. Following contributions from Subb-An and Catz ‘N Dogz, stepping up to the plate now is in-demand producer and Beatport chart-topper Patrick Topping, who runs us through his first taste of the floor...

“The first time I experienced Cocoon at Amnesia was the 17th August 2009. I walked into the main room and stayed there all night, except for a little mission into the terrace. Roman Flügel was playing in the main room when we arrived, followed by Sven Vath.

“I still remember it so vividly, as it really blew me away and although I had been to Amnesia once the summer before for Cream, this night was literally one of the defining clubbing moments for me — it woke me up to techno and proper house music. Along with the first Cocoon In The Park in Leeds a couple months earlier, I would say these were the two most influential events on my music.

“Me and my friends at the time joked of how it felt in that moment on the dancefloor, as if we were in the centre of the universe, but it was true. I wasn’t thinking about anywhere else, just taking in the sounds and visuals of the techno dungeon. I remember thinking who are all these people, some of the maddest looking people I had ever seen but also some of the coolest.”
