History of hip house explored in new documentary: Watch

A new three-part documentary series is exploring the formation and development of hip house.

Available to watch in the US via cable TV channel Xfinity, 'In Our DNA: Hip House' explores the societal conditions in which hip-hop and house music were combined during the 1970s and '80s. Key genre figures such as Fast Eddie, DJ Spen and Emmaculate are among those who appear across the series.

Speaking about the documentary series, executive producer Keesha Boyd said: "Show me a revolution in music, art and culture and I'll show you a society screaming to evolve. It's our hope to bring this rich history to new audiences who may not have been aware of this revolution in music."

The series, which premiered with a screening at Chicago's Vic Theatre earlier this month, forms part of Xfinity's Black Experience documentary strand, which aims to showcase the work of Black creatives.
