Posthumous Lee "Scratch" Perry album announced, single with Greentea Peng out now: Listen

The final album by Lee "Scratch" Perry is set to be released more than two years after his death.

Titled 'King Perry', the record was written, produced and recorded by Perry, together with producer Daniel Boyle, in the months before his death. The 12-track record takes in guest contributions from Tricky, Happy Mondays' Shaun Ryder and Greentea Peng, who appears on lead single '100lbs Of Summer', which you can listen to below.

Boyle said he worked with Perry on the new record up until just a few days before Perry's sudden death at the age of 85 in August 2021.

"Strangely, Lee had asked to voice a track worked on by classical composer Hugo Bechstein who added piano and strings, quite out of sync with the rest of the set," Boyle said in a statement. "His lyrics have him musing about going back to being a baby and being reborn, when the music stops, he just says 'goodbye' – it's the last song on the album and it's the last song he recorded."

'King Perry' will be released by the False Idols label on 2nd February.
