SOUNDCLOUD LAUNCHES AD-FREE SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE IN THE UK AND IRELAND

SoundCloud has announced that its new subscription service is now available in the UK and Ireland.

SoundCloud Go was originally launched in the Unites States in March, and offers users access to a larger database of music, offline listening and ad-free access. It will cost £9.99 in the UK and €9.99 in Ireland.

The service, which launched with a 30-day free trial, is SoundCloud’s rival to Spotify and Apple Music. However, many early users reported SoundCloud Go has far less officially licensed tracks than its rivals.

In a recent interview with the BBC, SoundCloud CEO Alexander Ljung, said, “Not everything was there on day one, but a lot of it has been added since. We’re still ingesting huge amounts of content every day.”

Non-paying SoundCloud users will now have in-stream audio ads, promoted profiles and creator partnerships when they listen, whilst artists can choose to use ads as a revenue stream, as well as which of their tracks enter the paid or free tiers.

SoundCloud's chief revenue officer, Alison Moore, told The Guardian, “The introduction of advertising forms a cornerstone of our commitment to the interest of our creator community. Each time an ad is heard in SoundCloud, an artist will get paid, and help to ensure the free offering remains available alongside the premium option.”

You can sign up for a 30-day free trial of SoundCloud Go here.
