Faith and fortune

Win a VIP trip to join Leeds phenomenon Filth for their massive third birthday session with Faithless, Style Of Eye, Alex Metric and Foamo

If any upcoming promoters wanted a case-study of how to build things from a small word-of-mouth session into a globe-trotting party brand, then the phenomenon of Leeds' Filth would be the perfect modern example. In three hectic, hedonism-filled years, Danny Savage's promotion has gone from ramming out a tiny wine bar in the sleepy, Leeds satellite village of Otley to becoming the most routinely rammed monthly at slick, city centre nightspot The Mint Club, booking everyone from underground house dons Jesse Rose and Switch to tech-house titans like Mark Knight along the way.

And as if to smash home their rapid rise, they're now unveiling their most ambitious party yet for their third birthday. Taking on the 2,500-capacity Leeds 02 Academy, Filth have snagged a rare-as-hen's-teeth Leeds live peformance from stadium dance superstars Faithless. Not only that, they're offering one lucky competition winner a VIP trip to join them  - as well as flights over to Madrid for the forthcoming Filth session at Madrid institution Fabrik.

With the birthday mash-up all kicking off on Friday 26th February, Faithless's showpiece at the 02 Academy will be supported by DJ sets from prolific tech-house trailblazer John Dählback, Toolroom boss Mark Knight and Style Of Eye. In a more boisterous, glitched out second room, Marine Parade's Alex Metric and the bass fiend Foamo will keep things bumping.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd be booking the likes of Faithless to come and play for us in Leeds' biggest venue, but we've worked hard from day one" says Filth boss Danny Savage.

"Production-wise, the birthday is going to be out of this world. We're going to have all sorts - fire breathers, performers, stunt shows. The 02 Academy have licenses for all sorts of pyrotechnics, so it's absolutely perfect for the atmosphere we want to build. It's like a cauldron in there."

Never ones to do things by halves, Filth's birthday celebrations are a also two-pronged assault with the first taking place at their monthly Mint Club residency on Saturday 13th February. In another statement of Filth's bold ambition and diverse booking policy, they're flying over NYC's unstoppable DJing duo The Martinez Brothers. Another Leeds debut from Filth, the pair touted as the next Masters At Work will be dropping a four-hour set of deep house gems, bumping grooves and percussive rhythms.

"We don't like to stick to the same sound month in, month out," explains Savage. "It's just got to be proper party music and music that inspires us as DJs and producers."

And with the rest of 2010 already bringing a residency at Air Birmingham (starting Saturday 6th March), spots at Ministry Of Sound's Loft and another summer of festival and Ibiza takeovers, Filth's rise doesn't look like slowing up yet.

Tickets for Filth's third birthday at 02 Academy are just £25 advance and available from filthuk.com
