Glastonbury Festival will return to Worthy Farm site in 2019

New event, the Variety Bazaar, pushed back to 2021...

Glastonbury Festival organisers Michael and Emily Eavis have said the event will return to Worthy Farm in 2019, following a year off to protect the site from erosion.

The pair had previously announced that they would launch a new festival 100 miles "towards the Midlands" instead of holding Glasto in 2019, later revealing it would be called the Variety Bazaar.

Now, in a new webchat for The Guardian, the organisers have said the original festival will go ahead, with the Variety Bazaar instead being pushed back to 2021, after Glastonbury's 50th anniversary.

“I think we’re most likely going to come back [to Worthy Farm] in 2019 after the fallow year in 2018, when there will be no event,” explained Emily. “Then 2020 is our 50th anniversary. And 2021, we may then do a show somewhere else, which we’re calling the Variety Bazaar. But none of this is set in stone.”

Emily continued to explain the new event won't be a replica of Glasto either, saying: "It’s not going to be exactly the same. It will be unique. With the same team, but crafted into a new event. Like a sister festival. We’re not going to just try to roll out Glastonbury 100 miles away."

With Michael adding that, "The plan would be to do the Variety Bazaar every fifth year, in the fallow year," and confirming that the festival will be around the same size as Glasto — "We don’t like boutique. Why pretend when we do the real thing?!

Glastonbury 2017 will take place on 21st to 25th June. Thus far, Radiohead are the only confirmed act.
