WITH no cameras allowed inside, the foreboding guts of this former power station will forever be a mystery to the uninitiated. But there's no doubt that pictures alone couldn't do justice to the musical, and illicit, pleasures that the club, set on two floors roughly divided into techno (Berghain) and house (Panorama Bar), offers. With marathon sessions that extend from Saturday through to Sunday night, a procession of the world's best house, techno and dubstep DJs, residents like Steffi and Prosumer, and plenty of nooks and crannies where the mixed crowd can get down and dirty in more ways than one, there really is nowhere quite so exhilaratingly intense and overwhelming. And that's not even mentioning the remotely controlled shutters, which open and close to remind club vampires when daylight has returned outside.

"Still the best club in the world for me because it doesn't care about being the best club in the world," reckons Jesse Rose, whose Made To Play label is resident there. "The guys do what they want, the way they want and it continually works. No VIP, no mirrors in the bathroom, no expensive cocktails, just a good sound system and great crowd."
