“Being the Father of the Slovenian techno scene” may be a bold claim, but in Umek's case it's bang-on. 2011 signalled another string of releases, including various 12s, a high-energy techno Toolroom Knights mix and a joint artist album with Beltek (with whom Umek released the smash 'Army Of Two' track in 2008).
“It was a very creative year in the studio,” says Umek. “I've made and released a lot of good music. My life is revolving mostly around gigs, producing music and taking care of the 1605 label.”
This year also saw Umek providing resident support for Carl Cox at Space Ibiza, and the unveiling of his Behind The Iron Curtain radio show. “I'm happy we've finally developed this project,” says Umek. “We've secured our niche on the global EDM-radio scene, with a partial focus on Eastern Bloc, which is usually overlooked by the western music and media industry.”
2012 will see one artist release/remix per month from Umek, and a new, extensively planned 1605 live project, premiering in February. TRISTAN PARKER
