Top 100 DJs / 16. Bobina
16. Bobina
Best known for: Being 'Russia's No.1 DJ'
Gig of 2009: Bobina Extended, at Gaudi Club, Moscow
Tune of 2009: HeatBoyer 'Happy Ending (Heatbeat & Randy Boyer Mix)' (Istmo Music)
Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2009: Heatbeat
The track that changed your life: Armin Van Buuren 'Communication Part II (Armin Van Buuren's Remake)'
Most underrated DJ: Ilya Soloviev or Anton Firtich.
Biggest challenge this year: Losing my bag at Global Gathering, in St Petersburg, with my passport and all my visas in it. I got it back. The guy who stole it was really drunk.
Top tech toy: Pioneer's CDJ-2000 - the future of DJing.
Once he's into his stride, Bobina speaks at about a hundred miles per hour. Or should that be 150 beats per minute? He barely pauses for breath. So you could hardly accuse him of not being enthusiastic, particularly as he's just back from the Ibiza DJ Awards where he accepted the Dance Nation of the Year gong on behalf of his homeland, Russia. "It is my first international award ever," he says.
Also exciting him (he does seem rather excitable) is the release of a remixed version of his debut artist album 'Again', with new versions of tracks like 'Invisible Touch' and the brilliantly entitled 'Go Get Vodka' re-rubbed by the likes of Ferry Corsten, Heatbeat and Gareth Emery.
"It makes me so happy that really famous people like Ferry Corsten make remixes of my records," he says. The original version sold a none-too-shabby 40,000 copies in Russia alone.
"Next year I plan to cut down my Russian gigs and pay much more attention to Europe and the UK. I like your country very much," he says.
"The most important thing for me is that I am still doing what I like, and doing how I feel. For me that means a lot, and makes me very, very happy. One of my favourite quotes is 'You go your own way'.
We're not sure who said it, but it seems to fit Bobina like a glove.
