Top 100 DJs / 20. Steve Angello

20. Steve Angello
Best known for: The Swedish House Mafia
Gig of 2009: Our Dark Forest closing party at Pacha. The energy was incredible.
Tune of 2009: My new track 'Monday'. It's going to get a proper release at the end of November.
Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2009: My brother Antoine. He's not just playing a Beatport top 10, he's unique.
The track that changed your life: Daft Punk's 'Homework'. It got me into house music.
Most underrated DJ: If you're good enough, you'll come through.
Biggest challenge this year: Staying healthy! I've never partied less than I've done this year.
Top tech toy: My laptop.
Much like his Swedish House Mafia cohorts Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell, 2009 was the moment that all those years of hard work finally paid off for Steve Angello. Ibiza was conquered, work on his album continues apace and his collaboration, alongside Ingrosso, with Pharrell Williams is nearing release. But most importantly, people want to work with him.
"The success of David Guetta has meant that I can go to the big labels now and they're ready to talk," he says. "Lots of artists, big artists, are making themselves available for my album."
In 2009, Angello kept dancefloors percolating across the world with cuts like his mammoth re-imagining of the Robin S classic 'Show Me Love', produced in collaboration with Laidback Luke, and in his eyes, dance music is finally back on the mainstream agenda - both critically and commercially. Now living in Los Angeles, he hears music on daytime radio that he'd never have come across before.
"We're gonna be No.1," he boasts, laughing. "It's super-exciting. We've done our jobs!"
This year will be rounded off by a triumphant, sold out Swedish House Mafia show at London's renowned Brixton Academy in November.
"It's unbelievable how things have turned around," he says. "It's been my best year without a doubt."
