51. Kaskade

Style: Electronic/house
Best known for: Sublime vocal tracks that stick in your head and rock the floor.
Gig of 2009: Electric Daisy Carnival in Los Angeles.
Tune of 2009: Kaskade with Tamra 'Angel On My Shoulder' (Ultra)
Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2009: Wolfgang Gartner
The track that changed your life: Steve Hurley 'Jack Your Body' - once I heard this I was hooked for good.
What makes a good DJ great: Being able to transform the mood of a crowd and uplift them.
Most underrated DJ: Mark Farina - he is still the best.
Biggest challenge this year: Trying to be in too many places.
Top tech toy: My 15" Mac laptop. This thing holds my life in it and it loves me unconditionally.

Kicking off with his first ever No.1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart 12 months ago (with 'Move For Me'), it was obvious that it was going to be a great year for Kaskade. Along the way he's had an additional trio of hits, including the soulful trance of 'I Remember' - like 'Move For Me', a collaboration with Deadmau5 - which flew into the UK Top 20. But how did hooking up with the rodent-headed one affect Kaskade's music this year?

"It didn't," the ex-Om fella says bluntly. "We both have distinctive and different styles but when we came together the combination was beautiful."

Finding out how much people in Argentina love Kaskade tracks on his first trip out there was particularly nice, while there was a similar reaction at Electric Daisy Carnival.

"It was incredible dropping my songs to hear them sung back to me from the chorus of 70,000 people," he beams.

Playing more festivals than ever has meant that Kaskade has seen his deck-based sound change a little - he plays bigger "when I am standing in front of a stadium full of people".

Where he found time to remix Empire Of The Sun, Little Boots, Paul van Dyk and many others, we've no idea, but he's already getting stuck into an artist album for next spring.

Should be in top 10. One of the few DJ's/producers that has quality vocals on his tracks. Not overpowering or distracting. The Grand (Mixed) was my favorite of 2009. I guess I will have to vote in 2010. . .

Can't believe this guy is only at #51, it's probably because he isn't European so he's not as well known, but maybe extensive touring will change that. Imo he's created what could be eventually known as, if not already, some of th. . .
