DJs and clubbers mourned the loss of Trouw when it closed its doors for one last time in January, a night that produced a video, which went viral, of Seth Troxler berating a promoter phoning up the club's office for guestlists. “Thing is there is no guestlist for anyone,” he's heard explaining down the handset. “I'm playing and I bought a ticket.” If that is true, and not just banter, it only goes to prove the importance of Trouw and its legacy. Not that it was ever in doubt. Opened in 2009 in an old printing works that produced a newspaper of the same name, with its 24-hour license, Trouw was more than just a club. A space used for art exhibitions and a restaurant too, it was the abandonment inside this ginormous warehouse after dark that will be most fondly remembered. The go-to for anyone in Amsterdam — or Europe for that matter — interested in excellent electronic music, Trouw served as the undisputed king of the Amsterdam club scene, and it will be sorely missed.
