Rex Club started out in the 1930s as an art deco cinema. In the late ’80s it started putting on acid house nights, and when French legend Laurent Garnier returned to Paris in the early ’90s after a spell in Manchester he started throwing his Wake Up! parties there, which helped properly kick off the city’s electronic dance music scene. Since then Rex has made its reputation as a premier place for dance music in the French capital, with the likes of Daft Punk and various Ed Banger artists all playing memorable shows there. Former resident DJs have included Dyed Soundorom, D'Julz and Jennifer Cardini, while more recently Acid Arab, John Talabot and others have held down regular spots.
