Sébastien Léger

Sébastien Léger brought the house down at this year's Creamfields in the Czech Republic. Although not in the way the French DJ intended. "The gig was going really well but the weather was terrible," he recalls. "Suddenly the wind ripped the roof off and then the speakers collapsed almost on top of me. It was a nightmare!" Luckily, not all Léger's foreign escapades this year have been such close calls. He re-entered America after five years of being refused entry due to visa issues to be greeted by crowds of eager fans. Following his 'Planets' album, Léger is now a much bigger name than he was half a decade ago and although he can't determine the whims of the weather or US customs, he now has complete control over his music, deciding to release solely through his own Mistakes Music label in future. "With digital stores, labels keep on re-releasing old stuff with different remixes so tunes that I did five years ago look new but aren't," he explains. "At least with vinyl when something was sold out it was gone, and I don't want to be reminded what I did in the past because I want to move forward." So rather than flog a dead horse, Léger would rather ride into new territories away from the electro-house scene with which he's associated. "Electro-house has almost become an insult for me because there's so many cheesy records," he says. "I want to make it impossible to predict what I'm going to do next."
