Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555 remastered for debut North American screening

Draft Punk’s Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem will be screened publicly for the first time in North America this summer. The 4K remastered version will debut at New York City's Tribeca Festival, slated to take place 5th to 18th June.

The 2003 anime was originally released to complement the French duo's second studio album, ‘Discovery’. The hour-long film tells the tale of the duo's abduction by alien militants and a rescue attempt led by a space pilot named Shep.

Daft Punk wrote the film with Cédric Hervet and enlisted Kazuhisa Takenouchi, who had previously worked on Dragon Ball Z, to direct. The late Japanese manga artist Leiji Matsumoto oversaw the overall project.

Though the full film has previously been hard to come by online, parts of it were excerpted for the music videos to classic singles such as 'One More Time' and 'Digital Love'.

Daft Punk parted ways back in 2021 following an expansive 28-year-long career. To make three years since their split, the duo shared a one-time-only stream of Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem via their Twitch channel last February.

Despite their break-up, Daft Punk have continued to release a stream of archival video releases, album reissues, and merch drops over recent years.  In 2022, they announced vinyl reissues of their debut album 'Homework' and accompanying live record 'Alive 1997'. In the same year, the duo also live-streamed a rare, unmasked classic live set on Twitch.

Last year, they announced a 10th-anniversary reissue of their final studio album, 'Random Access Memories', and released a drumless version of the LP. It was recently revealed that the same release is the most collected album on Discogs, appearing in more than 68,000 collections.
