Maribou State postpone all live shows and new music amid Chris Davids medical recovery

Maribou State have postponed all upcoming live shows and release plans while one-half of the duo, Chris Davids, continues to recover from surgery. He underwent the procedure in November to treat a rare brain condition called Chiari malformation.

Davids was diagnosed with the condition in 2022, and it has been the cause of a series of symptoms, including extreme headaches, insomnia and bad mental health, he said in a statement.

"After trying a variety of conservative treatments, I made the difficult decision to undergo brain surgery in November last year," Davids said. "The surgery, for the most part, was successful and the symptoms have now either been resolved or are in remission. However, there were multiple complications that have since slowed down my recovery and presented me with new challenges that, five months on, are still ongoing."

As a result of this, he and fellow member Liam Ivory, who released a single called 'Blackoak' via Ninja Tune last summer, have decided to pause the project for the foreseeable future, putting on hold plans to release an album that they have been working on for the last few years, as well as scheduled live shows.

"We know this will come as very disappointing news for those who have purchased tickets and have been patiently waiting on new music," Davids added. "We're incredibly frustrated but touring requires so much more love and energy than I'm currently able to give. We hope you understand our reasoning for making this decision."

He added that he is continuing to make good progress with his recovery and that Ivory will be able to continue DJing for the time being.

"We DO have a finished third album; one we're both incredibly proud of and excited to share with you all, and the live band WILL be getting back together as soon as the albums released," Davids said. "Thank you all so much for your patience. It's been a long journey since the last album but we're both so grateful for the all the love and support you've continued to show, and we both truly can't wait to send some of that back your way once I'm out the other side."
