If Fedde Le Grand's studio work has seemed a little scarce this year, appearances can be deceptive. Though he ram-raided his way onto the international scene with the ubiquitous 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit' back in 2006, he's yet to produce his debut artist album. But this is all about to change.
"If you're producing an album, it's an ideal opportunity to do more than a compilation of house tracks you've put together over the last year, or whatever," he says. And quite rightly. He says it's taken so long firstly because he produces everything himself, from the first beat to the last, and secondly, the schedules of certain other artists appearing on the set can sometimes delay matters.
So who, exactly, has been depriving us of getting Fedde's album sooner? Stereo MCs frontman Rob Birch is one culprit, and The Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am is another.
"I was watching the MTV Europe awards at home, and there were artists nominating their favourite tracks, and will.i.am said 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit', because he couldn't get it out of his head. I literally fell off my sofa. So I just asked if he was up for a collaboration, and he was cool with it. He's like a sponge, interested in everything."
