Top 100 DJs / 63. Leon Bolier
63. Leon Bolier
Best known for: My recent compilation 'Streamlined 2009 - Buenos Aires'.
Gig of 2009: Tomorrowland in Belgium.
Tune of 2009: Simon Patterson 'Always' (Spinnin' Records)
Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2009: Gareth Emery
The track that changed your life: 2 Unlimited's 'No Limit' made me follow music.
Most underrated DJ: When I saw people like Dave Clarke lower than me in the Top 100, it shows they're underrated. I still look up to him.
Biggest challenge this year: Working on my new album. I want to finish it before August but start touring again soon.
Top tech toy: The Nord Rack 2X. I bought it two months ago and I'm using it in all my productions.
Breaking into the Top 100 and dropping his debut album 'Pictures' at roughly the same time last year, Leon Bolier has spent the following twelve months visiting the growing global fan base who put him there.
"Afterwards I did loads of touring in Australia, South America, Europe and North Africa, pretty much everywhere," Bolier recalls.
The time was right to put together his first mix album, 'Streamlined 2009 – Buenos Aires', an Argentina-inspired expansion of the flavours Bolier periodically cranks on his Streamlined internet radio show. The concept also runs into a club night, which kicks off in Holland on Boxing Day at Poema in Utrecht, with plans afterwards to take it abroad.
"The concept is me inviting close DJ friends who I've met over the last couple of years and respect," he adds.
After the success of 'Pictures', Bolier's 2009 has seen him cut plenty of new remixes and singles, including recent double header 'Lunar Diamond'/'Seraphic', hammered by both Armin Van Buuren and Marcus Schulz on the radio, and 'Last Night Tonight', a collaboration with Menno De Jong. Firmly back in the studio, he's working on album number two, pencilled in for release in 2010.
