Top 100 DJs / 85. Sied Van Riel

85. Sied Van Riel
Best known for: 'MMNE'
Gig of 2009: Trance Energy, Australia: four cities, four days, four main stages - that was living the dream!
Tune of 2009: Sander van Dein 'Aurora' (Black Hole Recordings)
Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2009: Jan Oostdyk
The track that changed your life: Delirium 'Silence (Tiesto Remix)'
Most underrated DJ: Sander van Doorn. Not underrated but deserves to be a superstar.
Biggest challenge this year: Dealing with the music industry, and not becoming an arrogant asshole in the face of my recent successes.
Top tech toy: I was an iPhone fanatic, until I borrowed Ferry Corsten's Blackberry and fell in love with it.
"Actually making the Top 100 is something I dreamed of a year ago. It's crazy - everything revolves around music now," reflects new trance talent Sied van Riel, who first broke through to the big time when Armin van Buuren named him as one of the best producers of 2008.
Since then, Sied has gone global with gigs at serious parties like Amnesia, Ibiza, and the Love Parade, Germany. As a result, his productions for the likes of Cloud 9 and Liquid Recordings have evolved, too.
"When you're travelling a lot you hear more music and meet new people, so the house and techno I hear on tour influences my productions. I'm always open to new things."
As someone who replies to every MySpace message and email he gets, Sied is still a clubber at heart.
"If there's a DJ on I like, I will be there at the front dancing, not hanging around the DJ booth being important. I see myself as the same as anyone else out there," he says, matter-of-factly, forgetting that not everyone else storms into the Top 100 DJs chart only a couple of years after first getting into the game.
As for next year, Sied has it planned out already, "literally travelling from one side of the world to the other, and a shit-load of production work."
